John Schwatschke (b.1943) Studied art & architecture in Dublin
& Munich. Began formal portrait sittings with portrait of Pres.E.de Valera (Chanclr. Nat.Univ) who told him
"Do one thing and do it well, and I think that should be art". Other formal portrait sittings:(Eur/USA) Noel Purcell,
Cyril Cusack, Bernadette Greevy, Ingrid Bergman, Archbishops Simms & McAdoo, Robt.Mitchum, Duke of Edinburgh
(1979), Lunia Czechowska, Harold Robbins & others. Worked as project manager on two large projects for King's banker,S.Arabia
over 5 yrs. Kept studio in Mougins, Provence as neighbour of Picasso, where Le Musee Schwatschke was established, prior to
full European Union. Project was transferred to Ireland & built near the artist's home at Carlow as a private art
museum 1976, opened by Austrian ambassador Dr.Nestor & S.McDougald, showing many of his 2,000 works & Modigliani,
El Greco, Picasso. (closed 1994) Best known for caricature works in Dublin & London sales rooms (largest 15 x 9ft,Waterford
