The Dutch artist Piet Sluis was born in 1929 and came to Ireland in the 1950s when he had a distinguished career as a graphic designer. In recent years his paintings have become widely known and are much sought after. He calls himself a colourist and in his own words likes "to push the transparency of oil paints, to give them weight and opacity" (in conversation with Paul O'Kelly) Sluis is also an accomplished jazz musician.
